Binders are liquid or dough-like substances that harden by a chemical or physical process and bind fibres, filler powder and other particles added into it. Examples include glue, adhesive and thickening. Examples of mechanical binders are bond stones in masonry and tie beams in timber framing.
Clays: Zeolite, bentonite, and pyrophyllite clays fall somewhere in between chlorella and charcoal. Clays are more selective to binding toxins than charcoal, but can still bind to nutrients. They are most commonly used for binding to biotoxins from mold and other microbes but can bind to other toxins as well.
In agriculture, a toxin binder refers to a substance added to poultry feed in minute quantities that is able to neutralize or immobilize harmful chemicals, mycotoxins or endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides) within a bird's gastrointestinal tract, thus avoiding negative consequences.
