Enrofloxacin is a antimicrobial agent. In veterinary medicine it is administered by subcutaneous injection to cattle and intramuscular injection to pigs and orally to cattle, pigs, turkeys and chickens, for the treatment of infections of the respiratory and alimentary tract. 

Enrofloxacin works by deactivating the bacterial enzymes needed for DNA transcription and is effective against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Enrofloxacin is used to treat infections requiring long-term treatment, such as osteomyelitis, sinus infections, soft tissue infections, peritonitis, and pleuritis or pneumonia. While enrofloxacin is well-absorbed orally and intravenously, it is usually not used intramuscularly because it is too irritating.
